Round 1 GT Cup Open Paul Richard

The GT Cup Open season has also finally started for the Q1 team. With no less than 4 cars we had arrived at the Paul Richard circuit. Also, 2 new riders have joined the team. The French Lukas Valkre, who is riding this season with the fast Dirk Schouten. Laurent Vandervelde is also a new rider with us. He drives together with Nicolas Vandierendonck in the green-yellow 992 Cup. Nicolas is not driving his own car this season, the bright green car has gone to the youngest duo Dirk and Lucas. John de Wilde is also back in our Q1 team. John is a fast, consistent rider who should not be underestimated. Jan Lauryssen is also there again with his blue 992. Yes, that's right, Jan is always driving. 😁

As always, the rules at the GT Open are that one rider will drive the first qualifying and start at the first race and the next day the other rider will drive the second qualifying and the second race.
On Saturday, Jan had put his car in second place overall, Lukas had P4 to his name, Nicolas P5 overall and first in the AM class and John P11 and P6 in the AM class.

The race started in the afternoon. Everyone did well with starting, especially John, he had made up a few places right away. Lukas had secured third place after a few laps. Nicolas had been able to keep his place well and did not let himself be known. Jan was meanwhile in second place overall with a nice lead.

The race always lasts 60 minutes. Every car has to do a pitstop and to stand still for a certain time. Jan and John did not have to make a pilot change. After the pitstop, Jan took over first place and won flawlessly. Dirk and Lucas were on the third shelf of the podium, which for Lukas was his first race in this championship. John came in fourth overall and won in his class. Beautiful drive from John! Laurent and Nicolas also had third shelf of the podium and 7th overall. Congratulations to Laurent as this was also his first GT Open race.

On Sunday it was the turn of those who did not qualify on Saturday. Unfortunately, Jan was no longer there on Sunday and had other obligations. Fast Dirk has again shown what he can do and had pole position, what an achievement. John was also first in his class and fourth overall and Laurent a nice P7 and P4 in the AM class.

The race started at 4:35 PM. Dirk was without difficulty the fastest rider on the field. He had started the race and was almost 20 seconds ahead of the second, unbelievably strong. John was also good in the field. John is a smart driver who knows well how best to drive strategically. After a few laps it was unfortunately over for Laurent due to mechanical problems, very unfortunate.
The results of the second race: Dirk and Lukas P2, John again a nice P4 and won again in his class.

We took very good and important points for the championship. The GT Open is a well organized and fair championship and we recommend everyone to participate in this championship.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible, thanks to everyone we drove such great results.

The next race is on our home soil in Spa Francorchamps.

We see you there!
